Unlock Hands-On Learning
BioSTL and WinWin Scientific have joined forces to offer a hands-on course designed to equip high school students with essential lab skills and the opportunity to explore a future career in bioscience.
Empowering the Next Generation of Scientists
Biosciences Core Lab Skills is a course designed to guide you in basic lab skills and prepare you for a job in the biosciences.
Our goal is to promote career exploration. We provide students with hands-on experience that ignites a curiosity for science and encourages them to continue developing their skills by taking degree courses or pursue an apprenticeship or internship.
The Community Lab partnership is an innovative initiative that brings hands-on science education directly into high schools. Through this partnership, schools receive a comprehensive curriculum designed to teach essential scientific skills, complemented by engaging and practical tools. Each participating school is provided with kits that include all the necessary materials, instructional videos, workbooks, and flashcards, making it easier for teachers to facilitate hands-on learning experiences in the classroom.
These resources are meticulously developed to align with real-world applications, ensuring that students not only grasp theoretical concepts but also build the practical skills needed for future careers in science. By empowering educators with the tools to bring science to life, the Community Lab partnership is helping to inspire and prepare the next generation of scientists, researchers, and innovators.
Course Participants.
This course was designed for entry-level scientists (high school, undergrad, or changing careers) who are eager to explore their career options in science, but aren’t sure where to start. If you're curious about the day-to-day tasks in various science roles or want to understand the skills required for success in these fields, our videos, materials, and simulations are a stepping stone.
How to Participate
Step 1: Partnership Onboarding
Schools interested in the Community Lab partnership begin with a simple onboarding process. This includes an initial consultation to understand the specific needs of the school and students, ensuring the curriculum and kits are tailored to fit their educational goals.
Step 2: Curriculum and Kit Delivery
Once onboarded, each school receives a curriculum package along with the corresponding hands-on kits. These kits include all necessary materials, from lab supplies to workbooks, flashcards, and instructional videos, providing a complete toolkit for both teachers and students.
Step 3: Teacher Training and Support
To maximize the Community Lab program's effectiveness, teachers receive training on integrating the curriculum into their classrooms. This training includes step-by-step guides, video tutorials, and ongoing support to ensure teachers are confident and well-prepared to lead their students through the hands-on activities.
Step 4: Hands-On Learning Implementation and Certification
With the curriculum in place and teachers equipped with the necessary knowledge, students dive into hands-on learning experiences. They engage in experiments, projects, and activities that bring scientific concepts to life, helping them build practical skills and a deeper understanding of the subject matter.
Students can also sign up to test for a nationally recognized credential upon course completion.
Step 5: Continuous Feedback and Improvement
The Community Lab partnership is committed to continuous improvement. Schools are encouraged to provide feedback on the curriculum and kits, and this input is used to refine and enhance the program. Regular updates and new resources are provided to keep the content fresh and relevant, ensuring the program’s long-term success.
